Egypt and Jordan 2005
It took 10 hours and 15 minutes to fly from New York to Cairo, plus 1 hour and 30 minutes sitting on the runway waiting for our turn to take off. I visited Egypt and Jordan in October of 2005 for a 21-day trip, traveling from Abu Simbel on the upper Nile in southern Egypt to Alexandria in northern Egypt on the lower Nile. The flight from Cairo to Amman, Jordan took an hour and 15 minutes. I rode on 11 airplanes, hot air balloon, river taxi, camel, donkey, horse carriage, two river cruise hotel boats and saw a flying silk carpet change colors. We visited countless temples, five pyramids, carved buildings in the rose cliffs of Petra and many other wonders of the ancient world. We were always surrounded by security solders and police. A “minder”, with an automatic piston under his suit coat, was always with us on the road in our bus. Our group of 12 and our guide Mahmoud Anwar had a wonderful trip back to the time of the pharaohs.
