PINNACLE ROCK AND THE STAIRS
Pinnacle Rock as seen from the Stairs
Pinnacle Rock is the most photographed formation on the Galapagos Islands. It is comprised of soft valcanic material which is easily eroded. The erosion produced the resulting photos. Originally, Pinnacle Rock was a "tuff cone" which is the result of the volcanic ash compacting and hardening into "tuff". There are many tuff cones dotting the Galapagos landscape, but none are as eroded as Pinnacle Rock.
