POST OFFICE BAY
POST OFFICE BAY ON FLOREANA
In the 1800's sailing ships going out from Europe to the Orient would stop and leave mail in a barrel for the family back home. Ships coming back from the Orient would stop and pick up the mail and return it to Europe. They might even find mail for someone on the ship. The ship would also pick up giant turtles for fresh meat for their long trip at sea. It has been estimated that one million giant turtles were taken from the islands for food on the long voyages.
